Making Waves: Our Journey in the Martin House Dragon Boat Race

Martin House Dragon Boat Race. It’s more than just an event; it’s a vibrant fusion of teamwork, community spirit, and the drive to make a difference. It is an annual spectacle held at Roundhay Park in Leeds. Teams from all walks of life come together to row their hearts out, all in the name of charity.

In the year of 2023, we participated under 'Harry and Grace's Boat Full of Sunflowers'. For those who are not aware, tragically, Harry and Grace passed away at the tender ages of 8 and 13, respectively, due to complications from Niemann-Pick disease, a rare but life-shortening condition. Their memory lives on in the event, where their spirit of resilience and joy shines brightly through the team. With support from our Cubed and Indigo colleagues, we aim to honour Harry and Grace's memory and contribute to the invaluable work of Martin House Children's Hospice.

At Cubed Talent and Indigo Healthcare, we’re not just about recruitment; we’re about people—our clients, candidates, and the community. The Martin House Children's Hospice, which provides care and support to children with life shortening conditions and their families, is one of our key charitable focuses. Training for the race has been an adventure in itself. From the first practice sessions filled with laughter and a few wobbly starts, to the adrenaline-pumping moments of synchronizing our strokes, the journey has bonded us in unexpected ways. Every paddle stroke symbolizes our commitment to the cause and the memory of Harry and Grace.

Fundraising has been a team effort too. From bake sales and coffee mornings to social media campaigns, our mission has been clear: to raise as much as possible for Martin House. Every penny contributes to the life-changing care the hospice provides. Whether we come first or last, the real victory is in the support we’re offering to Martin House and the solidarity we’ve built as a team. We’re not just colleagues; we’re a family rowing towards a common goal.
