Pre-Interview FAQs

Understanding the Process

What specialties do you recruit for?
We specialize in Emergency Medicine, Acute Medicine, Gastroenterology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Radiology, Palliative Care, Histopathology, Ophthalmology, Anaesthetics, Dermatology, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Do I need NHS experience to apply?

No, many of our candidates come directly from international healthcare systems. However, relevant clinical experience and familiarity with UK medical guidelines will strengthen your application.

What qualifications do I need to work in the NHS?
This depends on your specialty and seniority. Typically, you’ll need full GMC registration, a relevant postgraduate qualification (like MRCEM, MRCP, or MRCS), and proof of English proficiency.
Do I need an IELTS/OET certificate?
If you’re from a country where English is not the primary language, you must prove proficiency through IELTS (score of 7.5 overall) or OET (Grade B). Exemptions apply for certain English-speaking countries.

CV & Application Support

What makes a strong CV for NHS jobs?
A structured, concise CV highlighting clinical experience, key skills, and achievements. Focus on responsibilities, procedures performed, and audits/research.
I have employment gaps—will this affect my application?
Not necessarily. Gaps must be explained, whether due to further studies, personal reasons, or career breaks. We’ll help you present your experience effectively.
Who can be a referee for my NHS application?
Ideally, a consultant or senior doctor who has supervised you in the last three years. Some Trusts require at least two references.

Interview Preparation

What should I expect in an NHS interview?
Interviews focus on clinical knowledge, decision-making, communication, and understanding of NHS protocols. We provide tailored coaching to help you succeed.
How can I prepare for my interview?
We offer mock interviews, sample case scenarios, and guidance on NHS expectations to ensure you’re fully prepared.
How long does it take to get an NHS job offer?
If successful, offers are typically issued within 1–2 weeks, though processing times vary by Trust.

Post-Interview FAQs

Offer & Compliance

What happens after I receive an offer?
You’ll need to complete pre-employment checks, including references, police clearance, and health screening. Our team will guide you through each step.
What is the H.T.E framework, and why does it matter?
Indigo Healthcare is one of the few approved ethical NHS recruitment partners on the H.T.E framework. This means we adhere to strict compliance, regular audits, and ethical recruitment practices to ensure a seamless and transparent process for doctors.
What documents do I need for compliance?
You’ll need identity documents, medical qualification certificates, proof of address, references, a police clearance certificate, and TB clearance if required.
How do I obtain a police clearance certificate?
You must apply through the relevant police authority in your country. Processing times vary, so it’s best to start early.
What if I cannot get a police clearance from a previous country of residence?
Some Trusts allow alternative verification methods. Speak to us if you’re facing difficulties.
Why does my passport need at least six months’ validity?
UK visa rules require sufficient passport validity to avoid disruptions during the application and relocation process.
What is EPIC, and do I need it for GMC registration?
EPIC (Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials) verifies your medical qualifications for GMC registration. If your qualifications were issued outside the UK, verification is mandatory.

Visa & Relocation

Do I need a TB clearance certificate?
If you’re from a country where TB screening is required for UK visas, you must obtain a valid TB clearance certificate.
Do my dependents need to prove English proficiency for their visa?
No, dependents are not required to meet English language requirements for the Health and Care Worker visa.
What is a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), and why do I need it?
Your BRP serves as your official UK visa and proof of right to work. It must be collected upon arrival in the UK.
How do I find accommodation in the UK?
Some Trusts offer temporary accommodation, but we also connect doctors with trusted property agents and resources for long-term housing.
Can I bring my family with me?
Yes, the Health and Care Worker visa allows dependents (spouse and children) to join you in the UK. They can work or study while residing here.
