Respiratory Medicine Consultant (Locum or Substantive)

They are currently seeking enthusiastic and skilled individuals to advance and develop the Respiratory Services. You’ll play a key role in building the reputation as the leading local provider of respiratory care, including the dedicated Respiratory Support Units, lung cancer services, and procedures like bronchoscopy and EBUS, as well as general respiratory clinics.
Main Duties of the Role
Successful candidates will join a team of 11 respiratory consultants and one SAS doctor across two acute sites. Supported by a comprehensive team of specialist respiratory nurses and diagnostic services at the main hospitals and a community hospital, post holders will manage outpatient clinics at their primary base and conduct additional clinics in our community hospitals. These include general respiratory and cancer clinics, with the option to develop a subspecialty interest.
The position involves working within a weekly specialty rota for ward and Respiratory Support Unit (RSU) coverage (in-hours only), along with participation in an unselected medical on-call rota at the Acute Medical Unit in collaboration with physician and acute care teams. Procedures such as EBUS, bronchoscopy, and pleural work are conducted on our primary acute sites, with full support from our medical day units.

This is an incredible opportunity to join a highly driven gastroenterology team delivering exceptional care. They are particularly excited about expanding sub-specialty services in ERCP/EUS, nutrition, IBD, and liver disease, though we welcome candidates with interests across any area of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Main Responsibilities
The role includes a 10-programmed-activity (PA) contract with a balanced mix of elective outpatient work, endoscopy, and inpatient care. Currently, the position includes a 1:5 rotation to cover in-patient activity on the gastroenterology ward, during which elective duties are paused. The job plan is flexible and can be adjusted based on your areas of interest or preferred working arrangements. Note that there is no GIM commitment, though the role includes GI bleed on-calls.

The Trust is experiencing an exciting period of growth and transformation, with bold aspirations for delivering exceptional, patient-centred care. As part of our commitment to a true 7-day service, they are increasing the consultant physician workforce by 50% over the next two years, alongside expanding our junior medical and clinical support staff.
Main Duties
The position includes a basic contract of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), covering both outpatient elective work and inpatient diabetes and endocrine care. Each consultant will share a 1:5 commitment and will have opportunities to develop specialist interests, such as diabetic foot care, bone metabolism, type 1 diabetes management, lipid services, or erectile dysfunction.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic services alongside professional colleagues.
- Participate in inpatient and outpatient care at both acute sites and affiliated community hospitals.
- Develop specialist skills tailored to the department's needs.
- Collaborate with community services, including supporting Diabetes Specialist Nurses and GPs with special interests.
- Provide ongoing clinical supervision for junior medical staff and educational guidance.
- Engage in postgraduate and undergraduate medical education.
- Take part in research, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Join the 1:12 on-call rota, covering both weekdays and weekends.

Consultant in Elderly Care Medicine
North East Up to £139,882 per annum for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs)
An exciting opportunity to join a great team at a Foundation NHS Trust in the North East.
As the Trust expands key services and frailty pathways to benefit patients, they are developing and enhancing the service across sub-specialties, including; Acute Frailty (SDEC), Acute Frailty Units, Frailty Specialist Units, Movement Disorder Services, Ortho-Geri's, Surgical Liaison, Hospital at Home and Outpatient activity.
Main duties of the job
The basic whole-time contract is for 10 programmed activities; 8.5 DCC (7 clinical sessions with 1.5 PAs admin time and for educational supervision) + additional 1.5 SPA. Consideration for part time working could be accommodated.
There will be a discussion with candidates regarding the final job plan/oncall arrangements, prior to the interview and appointment to ensure the job plan reflects both the individuals and organisation goals. On calls can be solely in geriatric medicine or potentially GIM depending on preference.
Additional programmed PAs may be available for additional activities and specialist interests if desired. Additional SPA time may be available depending on individual and service requirements.
